I am looking for the best tent for a family of 2 adults and four growing kids on a budget but am prepared to spend the right ammount of money for the right tent.
I am probably not in the financial range of the upper end of the market so mid to lower price range would be good.

We also had 4 kids, who are now in their 20's.
Best solution for us was 2 tents.
Its easier to put up and pack up than one large tent, and offered more versatility. And the kids appreciated their own space.

Hi

I have a brand new family tent, only used once, now have caravan, canvas OZtrail Chateau 12, 3 room, plenty space for 6 people, beautifully made, is a bit heavy because of thick canvas, 7,6m x 2,4m with a further 2,4m x 3m awning that can have walls fitted (not incl) supposedly rated as sleeps up to 16 but real spacious for 6, 2,2m high in middle.
Tent is in Perth, 0424168111, I paid $1200, will sell for $600. Google OZtrail and look at cabin canvas tents, the one shown is Chat 10 ( 5,6 x 2,4m).
Otherwise consider new OZtrail, they are strongly made.

Cheers

We're also 2 + 4 (oldest 6yrs) and have had the Coleman Northstar 8 now for about 4 years.

I've been really impressed with it. It has plenty of room, can fully stand up in it & has withstood all the weather we have experienced so far during our travels (some of which has been pretty nasty). It also has a separate sleeping area (where we put the kids) & then my wife & I sleep in the living area.

I just took a look on the net to see if it is still available (which it is), and notice that it is $200 off from where we bought it from compared to others (Camping-r-us (apologies if I'm not meant to give plugs - I have no association with them, apart from the one off purchase).
